THE 60's APARTMENT

Rather than fighting the building’s origin, we decided to embrace it. The goal became to restore a genuine sense of the 1960s—clean lines, natural light and simplicity—while layering it with a personal and slightly bohemian spirit, adding warmth, art and softness to a space that once felt stark and impersonal.

THE MISSION

Renovate and furnish an entire home with four rooms, covering 90 square meters

MISSION:

LOCATION:

Fagersjö, Stockholm, Sweden

CONTEXT/PRECONDITIONS:

The view from the balcony and several of the windows stretches out over the lake and was serene and beautiful. But inside, the apartment felt almost entirely without soul: brown plastic flooring in nearly every room, renovated windows with 1980s handles, brown moldings, bare white walls, and long narrow rooms that were difficult to make feel warm.

BUDGET:

Medium

RETAILERS:

Mostly vintage items from auction houses and vintage stores.

THE STORY/RESULT

THE 60s APARTMENT

Soft Scandinavian Mid-Century

Perched above the lake and surrounded by pine trees, this 1960s apartment enjoys an unusually serene outlook. The windows frame nothing but sky and treetops, giving the quiet feeling of living high among the trees.

Rather than fighting the building’s era, the design embraces it. Clean mid-century lines, warm materials and gentle colours reintroduce the spirit of the 1960s while adding softness and personality.

A palette of whites, soft creams, amber and dark wood forms the base, complemented by warm blue, powdery pink and touches of honey tones.

At the centre of the living room stands a round wooden table beneath a luminous mother-of-pearl chandelier, positioned directly in front of the large window overlooking the lake. Surrounding it are elegant 1960s chairs that were carefully reupholstered in soft cream leather.

Original elements were preserved where possible, while new additions — café-style details in the kitchen, warm lighting and mirrors in the hallway — bring warmth, atmosphere and character to the space.

The result is a calm and personal home shaped by light, nature and soft Scandinavian mid-century warmth.
